YOGA

Yoga is a combination of physical and mental exercises. It has the power to calm the mind whilst at the same time strengthening the body without any strain and at your own pace. Most people think that yoga is about flexibility and being able to touch your toes, meanwhile, it's really about the flexibility of the mind, managing stress, and anxiety but most of all fully being fully present in your body. The beauty of it is that you do not have to be super flexible, fit or a typical yogi to reap the benefits, whether you’re old, young, underweight, overweight, or buff, anyone can do yoga.

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘/yuj/' meaning to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline.

MEDITATION

Yoga is not only about the Asanas (yoga postures), in fact, the asanas form just a small part of it. Yoga is very vast, the postures were originally intended to prepare the body as a foundation for unity with the spirit. Meditation forms one of the many parts of yoga and it is used to help differentiate oneself from thoughts and feelings in order to become fully aware. The purpose of meditation is to stop the mind from rushing about in an aimless (or even a purposeful) stream of thoughts. This is often known as to still the mind. When we still the mind, our spirit speaks to us.

Over the decades, meditation has become a natural part of the human experience and is increasingly used as a therapy for promoting good health.

If you have looked at the sunset or a beautiful painting and felt calm and inner joy, while your mind became clear and your perception sharpened, then you have had a taste of the realm of meditation.

"Successful meditation" means simply being - not judging, just being aware, at peace and living each moment as it unfolds.
